One Room Challenge Week 7

A Lighting Level Up & Details Last Call!!

LIGHTING

So often I’ve had clients not willing to change light fixtures. When I purchased this home three years ago the first thing I wanted to do was change out light fixtures. As many as I could afford. I still have a few to go and a few I’m changing for the second time already, one being the glam flesh-mount that this new lighting replaced. Besides my aesthetics changing totally over the last couple of years, I also know lighting set the mood for a room. This room wasn’t calling for a traditional chandelier, although in allot of dressing rooms and walk ins chandeliers were a trend. With modern boho/chic being the aesthetic goal here, I opted for the selection to be modern.

My daughter’s bedroom lighting changed out for her bedroom project last fall is super boho. Every room in my home on the second floor will flow but needs to have character of its own. The ceiling medallion was the cherry on top to add a touch of timeless class. Do you hear the story in the room now being told?

BLACK CEILING LOVER

Miss neutral queen here (self identifying). I would’ve never imagined years ago having a black painted ceiling in my home, anywhere. Now I’m trying to decide what’s getting black paint next! But about this black ceiling, I am in love!! Burgess Brothers was hired to tackle this paint job. After installing my own wallpaper I opted out of that as a DIY task quickly. Needless to say I’m well pleased with this outcome. Topping a bold wallpaper with black background in a room with dark wardrobe shelving throughout I had to use a few hacks to keep my space open and flowing. I have to wait for the reveal to discuss more in detail!

CROWN ME PLEASE

Crown Moulding dilemmas began shortly after moving in when it was time to install window treatments. Being a homeowner for the third time and a Realtor, I have a true appreciation in knowing the value crown moulding adds to a home. As an interior designer I certainly have an added love for this. However, there are a few dilemmas faced that ultimately led to my decision not to add any crown moulding to this room. It kept me up a few nights actually.

My first dilemma was the way the contractors refinished this house before the investor flipped it. No bueno! Wasn’t a deal breaker clearly, but they left no space around the top of the ceilings on the entire first floor for any moulding to be added. None in the master bedroom. And very little in my daughter’s bedroom. Oddly, this room (the middle bedroom) is the only room having adequate space. I measured. I could easily add a 3” or 4” moulding. In my head it was going to be a glossy black. In the grand scheme of things it just didn’t make sense for the expense knowing I’ll be moving. Additionally, I have my master bedroom project next in line. That budget trumped this. I would also be remiss in sharing how the entire home could actually get crown moulding added. It would be an easy fix. I would absolutely invest if this were my forever home.

So, if you’re a homeowner planning to stay for a life or even for any indefinite time adding crown moulding is a must for the win. Otherwise, find an impeccable painter like mine or plan on using paint tape to ensure you have super clean lines of division in paint being layered with wallpaper.

DETAILS LAST CALL

My favorite decor accessory of all will forever be fresh flowers. I have been posting my home made arrangements often from my start of my Instagram page. I’ve always believed a table can have nothing but flowers and be gorgeous. For this space, fresh flowers was a must. I created a place especially for me to be able to add flowers to the room weekly, along with a couple other rooms in my home. Besides a few remaining wish list accessories the florals were among the finishings.

I had a vision in my mind for this project for reveal day. Through a friend I had the pleasure of being referred to DNA FLORAL, who brought my vision to life. I’ll leave you with a view of what she created especially for me and a reminder that next week is the big reveal post!
