Dressing Room | quiet luxury

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE WEEK THREE

Photo serving as inspiration.

LET'S CHECK IN

Much llike House of Clark client projects, my home projects have quieter weeks than others throughout each phase. Especially this phase. The design phase. Designing comes with layers of decisions, changes, hours of sourcing, and more changes as needed to get every detail right. The photo shared may seem random. It captures the mood I plan to have when sitting in my dressing room after it’s all done!

I've shared before and after views, partial renovation work needed to finish the walk-in located inside the space, my sponsored wallpaper selection, paint color, and a peek at something that's been on my home wish list that includes Mongolian fur. So, there are a few more details remaining that I may share and some that will be saved for the full reveal. The biggest accomplishment this week was nailing down my lighting selections; sponsorship/ stock availability pending.

ABOUT MY DESIGN GOALS

Interior design is not just about how a space looks aesthetically. The most important part for me is how a space makes us feel when we enter it. There are many elements of design that contribute to how we feel like; use of color, how a room smells, use greenery/florals, textiles, and more. The goals are rooted in how this dressing room needs to function first. I chose to create a full dressing room, so the space will serve as my own personal boutique to shop in daily, for events, vacations, etc. Functionality boxes are all checked.

Next, feeling. It's important for me to feel cozy and experience a level of luxe at home overall. So, I absolutely planned to splurge a little on details that will make me feel like a queen. To achieve a cozy vibe, I opted for the carpet with a padding that's thick and carpet that's soft. Choosing cream was a no brainer for me. If you know my style, you get it. My personal aesthetic is a minimal approach to modern-contemporay; bespoke design with timeless appeal. So, after functionality and feeling it’s the visual details. The finishes and furnishings to style the space will complete the design. The details are the design right?!

EVERY SPACE SHOULD TELL A STORY

Photo from my previous walk-in wardrobe photoshoot; my first ORC project.

Creating a boutique style dressing room is intended to inspire more of shopping my own wardrobe. I've discussed in the past the importance in being able to physically see our wardrobe being important when figuring out fit options etc. Out of sight out of mind is more than a cliche. I'll add that I've also been intentional about creating a capsule wardrobe after watching a celebrity stylist’s Masterclass. It was pretty enlightening. For anyone interested, you can check out a clip here.

Pro tip: Organization is king. The idea of a capsule wardrobe is to first identify what you wear most, what you feel & look your best in. Second it is to have our 'go to' wardrobe items organized and at our finger tips, taking the stress out of what we should wear.

More on my capsule wardrobe... Creating a capsule wardobe for a woman who fluctuates between two sizes with over 50 pair of jeans called for another purge. Yes. I did purge before we moved last year at the end of winter and again last fall. This time will be different. I'm finally committed to letting go of those items that haven't been worn in over two or more years and pieces I cannot fit today. Getting to that goal weight or size. That's a different blog topic altogether, because in the meantime we have living to do, places to go, and fits to be fitting. Ugh! To the girlies who know. You know this is not an easy feat.

Back to the overall design goals. To summarize: The foundation will remain neutral as established so far. The clothing racks will be replaced by custom sized PAX shelving. The focal points will be various details; beyond having clothes and all the things on display. Lighting and furnishings will elevate the room from minimal modern to a story that reads a chapter of my style story being told at home in real life; it is quiet luxury.

My customization design plan for handbags and shoes will be completed in week four; along with finalizing window treatments (custom or retail TBC). The contractor work for shelving assembly and custom wood trim will begin in week five and six. Week seven and eight will be for reorganizing and styling for reveal as detail in last week's blog post.

Until next week, stay tuned for updates in my stories and the highlight on Instagram and the main ORC blog to  learn more about ORC semi-annual event + how my fellow participants are doing. Special thanks to the ORC founder & host, Linda Weinstein and the official media partner Apartment Therapy.
